Clean, dry equipment is easier to inspect and pack. Care methods differ between helmets, pads, gloves, sticks and clothing, so one washing rule cannot safely cover the whole bag.

Start with the label or manual

Find the manufacturer’s instructions for each protective item. Check which cleaners, washing methods, drying conditions and replacement or inspection processes are permitted. If the instructions are missing, contact the manufacturer or an appropriate equipment specialist before using solvents, heat or a washing machine.

After practice

Empty the bag, separate wet clothing and allow equipment to dry using its approved method. Keep items away from conditions the manufacturer warns against. Inspect straps, fasteners, shells and padding before putting the bag away. A quick routine helps you notice damage sooner; it does not certify equipment as safe.

Before the next session

Check the pocket and shaft, confirm all required parts are present and bring a concern to the coach before use. Do not tape over a crack or alter a protective component to avoid replacing it. Keep any required helmet inspection or recertification schedule with the equipment records.

Clothing has its own care instructions

Use the garment’s care label for temperature, drying and print-care guidance. Do not assume that an instruction for a tee applies to gloves or pads.

See official equipment requirements and our beginner equipment checklist when reviewing the bag. No generic routine can promise that gear lasts twice as long or restores damaged protection.
