Between Lacrosse Seasons: Rest, Other Interests and Optional Skills
Updated: 15 hours ago
The time between seasons does not need to be filled entirely with more lacrosse. A useful plan considers the player’s interests, existing activities and how the season felt.
Review before planning
Ask what the player enjoyed, what was tiring and whether they want a break or a different activity. Include school, friends and family time in the conversation. Playing several sports can be an option; it is not a universal test of being a good athlete.
Choose a manageable next step
If the player wants optional skill work, ask a qualified coach for a suitable starting task. A short, understood activity can be more useful than copying a demanding daily routine. Rest and unstructured play can also belong on the calendar.
Keep the schedule visible
List existing commitments first, then discuss whether extras fit. Avoid stacking missed optional sessions into a catch-up weekend. Review the plan when another sport or school demand changes.
Maintain the equipment
Use manufacturer instructions to clean, inspect and store items. Address fit or condition questions before the next season rather than waiting for the first practice.
Read the weekly planning sheet, goal-setting worksheet and avoiding burnout for different parts of the conversation. An off-season is a chance to make deliberate choices, not a requirement to train year-round.
